Tech XC Takes Ninth, 11th at ACC Championships
DJ McMillan was the top Tech finisher in 33rd place

CLEMSON, S.C. - At the 2011 ACC Championships, the Georgia Tech men's and women's cross country teams earned ninth and 11th place respectively. D.J. McMillan paced all Tech runners with a 33rd place, 24:23.8 place finish. The women's team was led by Mary Kownack who took 61st place overall with a time of 22:14.1.

The top-five runners, and scorers, for the Jackets included McMillan, followed by Patrick Barron who crossed in 40th place with a time of 24:31.2, Shawn Roberts in 53rd place with a time of 24:45.7, Alec Clifford in 66th place with a time of 25:09.0 and Niall Longobardi in 72nd place with a time of 25:19.7.

On the women's side, after Kownack, came Rachel Hammond in 75th place with a time of 22:51.2, Kelly Meyer in 77th place with a time of 22:58.7, Katie Vance in 80th place with a time of 23:06.0 and Katie Townsend rounded out the top-5 in 23:33.7.

The No. 1 Florida State women earned their fourth-straight XC title while the 19th ranked NC State men earned the bragging rights with their first place finish.

The Jackets will return to action at the NCAA South Regional Championships on November 12 in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Men Fourth, Women 10th At Charlotte Invite

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The men's cross country team took fourth while the women's team earned a 10th place finish at the Charlotte Invitational on Friday night at McAlpine Park. Patrick Barron led the way for the men's runners while Mary Kownack paced the women.

The women's team was led by Kownack who crossed the line in 18:19.61 with a 40th place finish in the field of 289 runners. Coming in second was Katie Vance, the first place finisher at the Clemson Invitational, who finished in 63rd place with a time 18:38.14 followed by Katie Townsend in 67th place in 18:40.35. Taking fourth was Megan Breitbach who crossed in 82nd place with a time of 18:52.51 while Laura Nelson rounded out the top-five with an 88th place finish and time of 19:01.19.
The rest of the Jacket runners to place at the meet included Kelly Meyer (100th place, 19:10.61), Diana Pressel (101st place, 19:10.86), Rachel Hammond (106th place, 19:17.99), Lauren Young (108th place, 19:19.72), Morgan Jackson (113th place, 19:23.32), Laura Seres (116th place, 19:24.90) and Elizabeth Lacksen (128th place, 19:35.46).

The women had a total team time of 1:33:31.80 averaging a time of 18:42.36 during the race and garnering 285 total points during the race.

Virginia Tech earned the team win on both the men's and women's sides while Wake Forest took third in both races as well. The second place men's team was Liberty University while Furman took second on the women's side.

The Jackets return to action at the Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala. the site of the 2011 NCAA South Regionals on October 15 at 8:30 in the morning.

BISHOP, Ga. - In the first race of the 2011 cross country season, the Georgia Tech men's cross country team netted a second place performance while the women took fifth at the UGA Invitational at the UGA Equestrian Center. DJ McMiillan led the way for the men while Mary Kownackpaced the women.

McMillan finished sixth overall in the 8k race with a time of 25:15.74 as the rest of the Jacket pack crossed the line right behind him. Patrick Barron took 10th place with a time of 25:31.17, Shawn Roberts came in 14th with a 25:58.20 finish, Joe Fulton crossed the line 22nd in 26:15.20 and Obiandu Igwefinished with a time of 26:30.97.

Eric Powers (35th, 26:45.22), Doug Black (41st, 27:18.47), Cameron Reid (47th, 27:34.09), Niall Longobardi (54th, 27:43.97) and Alec Clifford(59th, 27:50.66) rounded out the pack of Jacket runners that averaged a time of 25:54.26 during the race.

Georgia earned the victory for both the men and the women. On the men's side the Bulldogs crossed 2nd-9th place tallying just 21 points while averaging a time of 25:07.30. The Lady Bulldogs tallied just 19 points at the meet averaging a 17:57.66 5k time during the race while finishing 1-2-3-4.

The Yellow Jacket Women were led by Kownack who finished with a time of 19:31.00 in 35th place. The senior was followed by Megan Breitbach who crossed in 39th place with a time of 19:33.69, then newcomer Kelly Meyer who finished 42nd with a time of 19:37.64. Diana Pressel(46th, 19:55.94) and Rachel Hammond (47th, 19:58.96) rounded out the scorers.

The final four Jackets to finish included Laura Nelson (49th, 20:06.14), Morgan Jackson (54th, 20:28.44), Elizabeth Lacksen (55th, 20:28.78) and Lauren Young(59th, 20:45.28). Tech averaged a time of 19:43.45 during the race.

Tech returns to action in a couple of weeks at the Clemson Invitational on September 16. The women will begin things at 6:15 p.m. followed by the men, who will compete at 6:45 p.m.
