BOSTON – Northeastern's men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Smithfield, R.I. on Saturday to compete at the Nassaney Invitational as their first competition of the 2018 season.

LAST YEAR'S SUCCESS
The Huskies proved successful early in the season last year, leading them to a spot at the CAA Championships where the men took second and women placed fifth.
Louiza Wise on the women's side placed sixth in the 6k with a time of 21:30.26 while returner, Dan Romano, placed fifth in the 8k, running a 25:17.63.
Eight men and eight women from NU qualified for the NCAA East Regionals in 2017.
At the IC4A Championships late last season, the men and women placed 12th and 14th of 25 teams, respectively.
Romano placed second in the 5 mile race, running a time of 25:16.5.

NEW FACES
Of the Huskies traveling to Bryant University on Saturday, the Huskies will add seven freshmen to their roster
Six men join NU, including Anthony Hurgoi, Zachary Jarnagin, Alexander Korczynski, Douglas Read, Matthew Schaefer and Ben Weingart
One new woman Husky will compete – Hannah Schneidewind.

RETURNING RUNNERS
The Nassaney Invite will include 19 returning Huskies to compete.
Of these returners, there are seven seniors who will rejoin the roster – Romano, the most notable.

BOSTON – Newly appointed Northeastern director of track & field and cross country and reigning CAA Coach of the Year Tramaine Shaw has announced that 19 student-athletes will be joining the Husky ranks heading into the 2018-19 season.

Shaw and her staff are looking to build upon last season's success that saw the men's and women's outdoor squads sweep the CAA Championships, the Huskies' first CAA sweep, the fourth-straight CAA title for the men and the first CAA title for the women since 2007.

"Coming off the heels of a phenomenal season, I am extremely excited to welcome our newest class of recruits," said Shaw, who is welcoming in her first-ever recruiting class. "Our staff worked diligently to evaluate what our program would need in order to achieve our next set of goals. I truly believe this incoming group of talented, resilient and hardworking student-athletes are ready to help propel our program to the next level."

The 19 newcomers represent 12 different states, including five from Northeastern's home state of Massachusetts, and two different countries. Four of the Husky incomers will join the program from other universities.

NUTFXC Coaching Staff on Schneidewind: "We expect Hannah to make an immediate impact as a contributor in the fall cross country season, as well as, at a variety of distance and middle distance events on the track. We are excited to watch her grow and reach new heights along the way."

Before Northeastern:
District record holder in 4x800m Relay, 4x1600m Relay, 3200m… Placed 10th in 5K at 2017 FHSAA Cross Country State Finals (18:41.02)… Placed seventh in 3200m at 2017 FSU Relays (10:48.54)… Placed 12th in 800m at 2017 FSU Relays (2:18.82)… Placed fifth in 1600m at 2017 FHSAA 3A Region 1 (5:03.64)
